Movie Conventions Research: Murder Mystery

Image
Hey guys! It’s Lindsay with my last movie conventions blog on the film: Murder Mystery.  Movie Conventions Research: Murder Mystery                                                                                                                                                                                                What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  This movie highly focuses on costumes for the different roles the actors play. For example, the movie opens with a cop in full costume, clearly showing that the character is part of the police force. Also, the film makes use of dim lighting to create suspense and add tension to the mood. My group agreed to use all of these elements in the final task film. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?  I liked how the movie used a contrast in lighting. For example, the editors used dim lighting with highlights on certain characters or objects for the mysterious sce

Movie Conventions Research: Enola Holmes

Image
Hey guys! It’s Lindsay and this blog is another mystery film called Enola Holmes.  What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie has a very complex and interesting plot. Throughout the multiple plot twist it is hard to predict what will happen next and keeps the audience excited. Such as when the villain was suspected to be Linthorn the assasin at first it was actually The Dowager. I want to incorporate this aspect into my movie by using different plot twists and have a detailed story line. The movie also drops a lot of clues that hint to the viewer the story which I always want to do as well.  What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? The movie gave a suspenseful atmosphere keeping the audience engaged. From the music fitting each scene and the lighting help make the audience feel like they are in the movie. The expression and acting from the actor also help to convey anticipation. I additionally like En

Movie Conventions Research: Where the Crawdads Sing

Hey guys! It's Lindsay again, and today I am here with a Movie Conventions blog about the film: Where the Crawdads Sing. What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie includes lots of suspense throughout the film, which is definitely one of the elements my group mates and I will be implementing into our film. It also has many moments of plot twists, uncertainty, and confusion, where the audience is left to wonder who the killer is. This move also does not give clear explanations for the events occurring throughout the film. For example, the killer's motive and strategy for killing the victim is never revealed clearly to the audience. This leaves them to wonder and also leaves them with uncertainty and suspense. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? The elements that this movie have that I liked were the intriguing plot, and backstory that left the audience to almost creatively think about. The ma

Genre Decision Blog - Mystery Genre

The movie genre my group mates and I decided on using for our final task was the mystery genre. The pitch idea we decided on best fits the mystery genre, as well as the specific camera shots and angles.  A thriller was not going to be the final decision, since most of the final task will be the mission/mystery of figuring out who the killer is, instead of the thrill leading up to the kill. A thriller also has lots of jump cuts for edits, and although it has similar CLAMPS as a mystery genre, the majority of the plot is a mystery.  Romance was out of the question for my group mates and I, since there is no romance within our final task.  So, we came to the conclusion of the mystery genre. A mysterious atmosphere can be achieved through dimmer lighting, silhouettes, tracking shots, and spooky ambient sounds.  Overall, the mystery genre will work best for our decided pitch idea. The correct use of CLAMPS, CAMS, editing and sound for the mystery genre will enhance our final task, to be th

Genre Research Blog - Romance

Hey guys! It’s Lindsay, and this is the research my group and I did for the romance movie genre: Genre Research: Romance  CAMS Some Cams that are commonly used in the romance genre are close-ups, two-shots, and medium shots. The close-up conveys a character's emotions and is mostly seen when a character is heartbroken or in shock. The two shot is between two characters portraying how they feel about each other and is seen mainly with the two main leads. Lastly, the medium shot is used to show the character's body language and facial expressions when around others or in a certain situation. CLAMPS Some Clamps that are commonly used in the romance genre are flowers, used as a prop, and costumes. The use of flowers as a prop is widely used to symbolize a character's love for another character. It emphasizes their romantic feelings as gifting flowers is seen as a romantic gesture. Costumes are usually casual clothing because characters are mainly teenagers and are portrayed we

Genre Research Blog - Thriller

Hey guys, it’s Lindsay again, and here is the research my group and I did for the thriller genre:  Common CAMS:  Commonly used camera angles, movement features, and shots in the thriller genre are tracking, low angle, over-the-shoulder shots, and point-of-view shots. Tracking shots are mainly used when a character is being followed or watched to build suspense. The low angle is often used to emphasize how powerful and intimidating a character may be. This is frequently seen with the antagonist of the film. The over-the-shoulder shot is usually seen around mirrors and reflections to build tension. Lastly, the point of view shot is for the audience to feel as if they are the actual character by seeing what the character sees, furthering the tension or suspense. Common CLAMPS: Some Mis-En-Scene features that are commonly used in the thriller genre are low lighting, costumes, and props, usually a weapon. Low lighting is often used in thriller films to create a suspenseful and mysterious mo

CAMS: In mystery films, various camera angles are used to create suspense and engage the audience. Low-angle shots can intensify the characters. High-angle shots create a sense of vulnerability. Dutch angles, where the camera is tilted, can add uniqueness. Close-ups are used to express emotions and tension. Wide shots help to set the scene, and tracking shots can build anticipation. Combining these angles create the overall mysterious atmosphere. CLAMPS: Lighting plays a big role in creating a mysterious atmosphere in films. Low lighting like shadows is often used to show details and enhance suspense. Adding dramatic contrast between light and dark areas. It’s also used to highlight the silhouettes characters, adding a feeling of secrecy. Dim and moody lighting contributes to the overall environment, These techniques work together to build an atmospheric and suspenseful tone in mystery movies. Props are carefully chosen to contribute to the plot and atmosphere. Common popular props inc

Pitch Blog For The Final Task

Pitch A: Three girls discover a treasure map washed up on the shore so they follow the map and are brought on an adventure. Pitch B: Two girls find a dead body while exploring the beach at night, and it is their friend who just wandered off. Discuss Pitch A: This movie idea would be exciting to film, but it may be hard to produce. Our original idea was to open the movie at the beach, which would be easy to do since we live close. Our original idea was to open the movie at the beach, which would be easy to do since we live close. however, since it is a treasure hunt, we would have to travel to multiple places on the map and to make the scene of us finding the map look realistic. Furthermore, this is a very general and overused plot line, so it may seem repetitive. Discuss Pitch B: This movie idea seems amusing to produce. our plan would be to film at the beach, at night, near our houses. We would make use of the utilities at the beach, like the restaurants and social events. however, t

My Group For The Final Task

Image
Hey guys! it's Lindsay again. I am so excited to begin working on this final task. My group and I have brainstormed some fun ideas. I have chosen a solid, hardworking group to complete the project. My group members are some of my peers and some of my friends from school. They are Mela, and Emerson. I am so excited to get working and I predict that this project will run quite smoothly. The reason why I chose these individuals as my group members, would be partly because of their work ethic, and also their efforts to do well academically. I was careful to select people that would get their work done, so we could all equally contribute to the finished product. I am not working with all of my best friends. From past experience, I know that this can be tricky and is not always the best game plan for an efficient project. It is best to choose wisely, and ensure that the Final Task is the best it can be. I did not wish to work by myself, because I knew that the final product could only

Introduction for the Final Task!

Image
Hello again guys! It's Lindsay, a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High school. I enjoy quality time with my friends, and going shopping is one of my favorite activities. I spend most of my time dancing, which I really love to do. I have been dancing for 13 years, and wish to continue loving it as much as I do now. Maybe even continue dance and ballet in college. I would describe myself as creative, hard-working, loyal and kind. My interests for later in life are real estate, and psychology. I love talking to people and I find the science behind psychology quite intriguing. I also love traveling, and going to the beach. The ocean in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I think warmer weather is better than colder weather, and find calmness in nature. Traveling is a bug part of my life, because my parents have been taking me places since I was born. I have been to Europe once, and I really wish to go there again. I have also been to Mexico and Hawaii. I value f
